So I am at the local MoCo dealer today looking at an '12 Road King. He has a beauty Midnight Pearl on the showroom floor. This unit does NOT have the ABS and Security. How important is that? I have been riding 20+ years and have always locked the ignition and fork when parked, so what advantage does the security system offer over that? ABS..is it worth the extra $825? Thanks for your input..it is appreciated.
I wouldn't buy a bike without either. I've been riding for 30+ years and can't believe how beneficial ABS is. With the security, the only way someone's taking your bike is by picking it up and carrying it away.

+1 security could save your bike......ABS could save your life..... nuff said?
I have both and do appreciate the ABS most. You can't go back if you buy without the ABS. I ran a poll some time back and without a doubt the majority responding either had ABS, or wanted it. There was a small percentage that said they would like it but didn't want to spend the extra money. I am glad they are now putting it in the other models as I consider a future purchase in the Dyna Class. The alarm is less of a must have but I bought it also post-purchase.
Get one with ABS. Harley has outdone themselves on this system. It operates flawlessly and only kicks in when you need it. I was a Doubting Thomas in regard to ABS on bikes, but now am a believer. No point in buying a new bike without getting the new "stuff". And as a secondary reason, I think it's good for resale value. You will cut out a lot of potential buyers for the bike if you ever decide to sell just because it doesn't have ABS.
I just picked up a 2012 pearl white RKC, never had the extra stuff before but love it.
I'm really happy with it for all the reasons listed above. Seems to me that the ABS only kicks in if you lay into the brakes really hard and that's when you'll need it. After you make the investment on a new scoot having more security never hurts. If that bike is the one you gotta have fine but for another $825 at this point, the bike will be much more up to date and it will have a better resale value.
I've always got the security option since it was offered but not the ABS. Got ABS on the new 2012 RGC. Haven't been put in a situation where I needed yet but have spoke with many who been happy they had it. Will report back on its effectiveness the next time a deer jumps out in front of me.
BTW............ Do you think the deer will see me coming with this bright Yellow Chrome fugly?
