I had a Softail Standard, now have an RK. The RK is a much more competent two-up tourer. My wife did complain about the RK's seat after a long day of riding, but a heated HD SunRay seat (same shape as a Sundowner) fixed that.
I LOVE the RK for the classic look - However, I have minor arthritis in my hand and on the RK - your hands are in the weather all the time. I moved up to the flhtci and have never looked back... still the classic look of the RK is hard to beat... same frame as my batwing - as far as comfort... Seat set up and sissy bar or tour pac that fits YOUR wife is the major difference... if the stock RK seat does not fit her, then its a bust,, its just a seat and that can be fixed... LOTS of people love the stock seat...
do the move... but first go and test ride a flhtci.... then make up your mind...
I still have my 01' FB... 2010 RK with detachable king tour pac... OL and I did Florida in may 3300 mile round trip... she liked it... did 700 miles in one day and no complaints..

You should do a Saddlesore Iron Butt
Never had much interest in them but have put a few miles down ina day....
Thanks for all the feedback. Appreciate it. We are going to rent a Road King when we go out to Vegas. I will have it for a couple days so we can get a better Idea. Thanks again.
Love the looks of the RK, but like a few have said check out the Classics. The tour pack (Which you can always add to a RK) makes my wife comfortable all day long. I thought I wouldn't like the bat wing but after riding it for a few miles I realized it was nice, especially if you ever ride in cool weather, plus the radio is awesome. I've got a RK seat on mine and the wife absolutely loves it.

Smart idea but, I'm not going to be shocked when you come home and buy one. I wanted a Road King from the 1st day I layed eyes on one. When I finally got a chance to ride one, it was all over. I rode it home on July 4th of this year and I never looked back. The ride is second to none
