How many of you have moved from a Softail to your bike? My wife and myself have started taking a few trips and we are thinking of getting a touring bike. I have a Softail Deluxe which for me is fine. More concerned about her comfort. How do your wives or girlfriends like the bike? We were at the dealer yesterday and the salesman actually told me that it would not be much of a change. Guess they didnt want me to buy one lol. The Road King is by far my favorite bike in the touring line and if I do get a different bike it would be my choice. Would appreciate some feedback from those of you who have made the switch. Thanks.
A Road King would certainly be a step up in comfort for your passenger. I have a friend at work who rides 2 up the majority of the time on his 2010 Road King. His passenger is fairly happy, but he is already considering trading for an Electra Glide to upgrade passenger comfort.
I came from a Fat Boy Lo. I loved the bike, but one ride on a RKC and the Lo went out the window. There is no comparison, especially with a passenger. On the Lo, we always felt cramped up and as we started making longer runs the ride for her wasn't that enjoyable. On the RKC, we go all day with no problems. The difference in frame design and suspension makes all the difference.
I just went from a little '08 Wide Glide to a RK. They offered me a good deal while trying to clear out the '11's they had in their showroom to make room for the new models so I jumped on it and love the decision. Did what everybody else does, put on a set of higher bars and also have ordered a set of lowers to protect my legs a bit more. I imagine the softail rides better than the entry level Dyna's, (couldn't ride any worse or harsh), so I will think the air suspension is a huge step up from a softail, (even though I've never riden one).
I went from a Fat Boy to the RKC. it's just a different ride. personally, I was more comfortable on the Fat Boy - more leg room. I fell like I'm a monkey screwing a football on the RK as I feel like I sit on the tank. my backseater says it feels the same for her.
I went from a '98 Fatboy to a 2010 RKC. The comfort is great, and I love being able to ride all day, but I do miss my Fatboy sometimes. As many on this forum have mentioned when switching from a softail to a touring bike you feel like you go from sitting in your softail, to sitting on the touring bike. It isn't a bad feel, just different.
Just the cruse control alone on the RKC
is a step up so I say go for it. I went from a dyna
wide glide to my RKC and my wife is thankful for
the comfort. I did not like the looks of my bike when
I bought it so I fixed it till it did. It will be my last bike
