Default Fluid Replacement

Ok, so last night after reading over 20 pages of oil/lubricant posts over on the oil page, I thought I would come back here and see what people are running in the engine, primary, and transmission. From what I read last night, a lot of people like to use multiple brands and types for each. Some had negative opinions of SYN3, while others have had no issues. Some have had good experience with Amsoil, others with Mobil 1.

Right now, I'm leaning towards Amsoil. Per Amsoil's website, 20/50 is recommended in all three holes. Your thoughts?

yeah, works fine. so does Syn 3 & Formula plus and Mobile 1 20w50 v-twin and etc...Very personal choice...Go with what you feel is best...Amsoil works fine...I used it and really didn't see a difference...Changed because i didn't feel like paying...It's all good though.

Didn't the 20 pages tell you what everyone is using?

I don't like the Amwayoil. Put some Redline in it.

I was not impressed with Amsoil and read MANY posts with others that share the same opinion.

Don't drink the kool-aid.... It does not hold up as well as others when run in warm weather.

And of course we all have "scientific" proof that one oil doesn't hold up in warm weather as well as another one. You have definitely come to the right place to get "educated" on which oil is best.

I'm geting ready to change mine and I'm going to go with Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 in all holes. One thing I've learned in reading up on oils, is no matter what you decide to use, someone is going to tell you you're making a mistake. Pick brand and stay with it, don't keep changing brands every oil change.

its your money to throw away as you like....there are only really 3 types of oil..dino, synthetic and a mix of the two....under normal conditions (which all but the most highly modified harleys run) they all do a more than adequate job....none of them break down, run out of detergents or insufficiently lubricate under the conditons which a harley is used ....the higher grade oils are really only needed in extreme racing conditions ( I am talking about supercharging, track racing and the like)......they will all last for the 5000 miles or so between oil changes on a street bike...Oh, and those hot summer days when you are stuck in traffic for an hour doesn't count as "extreme", its just normal motorcycle use...

I think the synopsis of the 20 pages that works best for me is that it doesn't matter what you use as long as it meets the specs that HD publishes.
