Default Tires

There has to be something that last longer than the Dunlop 402"s ive been using on my 04 EG. Im only getting about 7500 miles on rear ones. Anything else that will last any longer?

Here we go again...

Dunlop E3's

For me: 402 about 8,000 miles on the rear tire and 17,000 on the rear E3.

E3's for my 04 EGC

Only thing is they don't come in white wall. I didn't care. Now that I got the black wall, the white does look better. My pic here is with the 402's

is it ok to put a 3 on the rear and keep my 2 on the front, or does it have to be a matched set?

Doesn't matter.....if your front still has life then run it. Most folks go through two rears for every front. Just change it up next time. That said, you'll probably have less groove tracking with an E3 up front.

I now run Metzlers but the E3s are a VERY popular touring tire. I run Metzlers because there's a lot of twisties around here that I like to dig into often...they're better for that then the Dunlops.

I only get 6-7k out of the rears (consistant over 60,000 miles on a Road King and my Electra Glide). Always got 25k out of the fronts.

OK....glad to hear your fronts last so long. 6-7K on a rear is at the low end of the wear spectrum for a Dunlop. Probably about normal for a softer compound tire. Wouldn't happen to be a larger than average man, ride two-up a lot, or carry a lot of heavy stuff in the bags, would you?

Again, "most folks"....there's always exceptions to very rough gouge.

Yes....I'm a big boy @ 310 lbs. Momma (160lbs) rides with me once in a while, so I have always kept the pressures at 36F and 40R, per the manual. Plus, mostly 70-80 MPH on hot Florida roads certainly doesn't add to tire life. I'm thinking that 36R when riding solo might be better, but I'm definitley going to give the E3's a shot this time around.

I used to only get 5K to 7K with my old bikes. Maybe 3K with sidecar riggs.
My '09 RG got almost 15K off it's 1st set of tires.
I'm expecting the same results with my new '11

I do a lot of "backroadin" two up and only get around 5500 out of my back. Keep an eye on the air pressure.
