Pretty common with the HD grease and I am afraid they will say its normal. I use whatever Amsoil specs for neck bearing grease and it stays put - even ridding in Sturgis in August.
I think you need a high temp grease wether made by Amsoil or somebody else.
Some things just dont change with the dealers. Guess they all use the same grease, and give the same stupid answers. They know very well this grease wont stay put, yet they keep right on jacking this crap in the neck. They didnt even look at my bike when I asked why I had grease spots on the tank and faring, gave me the reason almost before I got the question asked. Oh and they even offered to pump some better stuff in. I thought why dont they do that first. Just proves they dont give a crap about your bike. I said no thanks and went home and replaced it with high temp. Took about 2 hours.
I used 3/4 of a tube of Harley grease and it didn't start to leak for the first few months. When it did, I just wrapped a black sock around the steering head and will remove it in 6 months. You don't see the sock tucked up under the fairing.
If it was me, I'd take it back every time the grease got on the tank and demand they detail it!
do you REALLY want these people touching your bike again and again????
"if" I ever take mine to the dealer for some warranty work (really the only reason I would ever bring it to them in the first place), I'll ask that they don't do me the favor of washing my bike afterwards... because the couple times they did have my bike and "washed" it for me, it had a crap load of water spots on it!
I mean, I could leave my bike out in the rain for a week and never dry it and get less water spots! LOL!
plus, they missed so much dirt, it looked like a 5 year old washed it...
It would take a lifetime of mistakes to learn what I have learned in 8 weeks on this forum. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to post their real life experiences, especially those that demonstrate occasional lapses in skill or judgement (I posted my experience dumping my bike at a stop sign). Both new and experience riders can learn so much - Thanks again!
