Default Need help with MM injection

I have a 2000 Ultra Classic, I had the stage 1 done by the dealer, then rebuilt the top end with Keith Black 10:1's, 30 overbore, and S&S 501 cams. I run long fishtails with drop in baffles on Samson true duals. I am having tuning trouble, and have had no luck finding someone who knows how to tune the OE Magnetti Morelli (guessing on spelling and exact name) injection system. I had one indy put a Cobra tuner on the bike which was absolute junk, I took it off and it is hanging in my garage. I have another indy who said he could tune it, but when I showed up he just wants to put a Power Commander on it. I have been told that the stock system is completely capable of tuning to accomodate my mods, but I cannot find anyone with the skills. Help! I am in Central Texas, can anyone suggest someone? I am dying here, I have absolutely no top end!

My '00 FLTRSEI came with the MM and 95", mild bump in compression, 203 cams, hi flow A/C, a download, and STOCK heads right from the factory

That told me way back then that I had a torque motor, not a HP motor. I don't believe that the MM flows well enough to get you HP up high in the rpm range.

Before that my 98 Ultra ( Evo) with MM injection did get ported heads, power commander, EV 3030 cam, 10:1 Weisco's etc. It was a stronger motor than stock, but nowhere near what I could have gotten out of a carb unit as far as HP goes.

MM can be tuned to run smoothly, ( mine loves the 26g gear drives for example,) but there's a reason HD switched to Delhpi in '02. IMO

Perhaps there's someone out there who knows how to get HP out of one.

You have been misinformed. PCIII is the way to go, check Dynojets website to find a tuner familiar with their product. The tuner makes all the difference. MM is good until you are 90-100 HP.

So Beemervet, are you saying that the PC will improve the issues I am having? I see you ride a 98 are you running this set up? So a mechanic with a dyno can fine tune the settings enough to accommodate my mismatch set up? Any help is appreciated. Don't mind spending the money if someone with experience with the device tells me they had success with it. Thanks, Dennis

A good friend of mine has the M M and started having some problems with it. He took it to a man that knows his business. He put a power commander on it and tuned it, that thing runs as slick as a whistle. Good luck with your bike, if you find a timer that knows what he's doing he can straighten it out.

Just a thought, but i have 510 cams in mine and it pulls like a tractor til about 4600 rpm's then falls on it's face. No top end at all. Had the PCIII on it and after having it take out the ECM i installed a FI2000 PowerPro Autotune. It still has no top end.

I run the PCIII, call FuelMoto and ask them, they were great to work with.

If you truly want to be done with it and just enjoy the ride get a Mikuni Carb and you will never look back. If going to a carb is just unthinkable, you need a power commander to fix it. Good luck.

The PC is a piggy-back mod. It allows the tuner to dial in any necessary changes in timing and fuel. I started with a PCII over ten years ago and upgraded to the PCIII USB when the PCII software was no longer supported. My motor has some goodies in it and the PC has kept pace with it all. Many here have had good things to say about Fuel Moto, but I choose to use a local tuner. Not too likely Jamie would have an exact map for your mods, but he can probably get you close, then go for the tune.

Remember, it's all about the tuner.
