Was the problem fixed in 2010?? I've got an 10 FLHX. Never knew that was a problem?
i`m not sure if it is a problem everybike has. i have 30,000 miles on my 07 and no broken brackets. and last time a had the fairing off i looked at them real close to check them out. i do have the compensator bang at start up tho!
It is incredible that Harley ignores a defect so common that small business entrepreneurs develop, manufacture and market solutions to correct it.
Does the condition still exist with late model bikes? It seems to me there was a part number change for an improved version or something. Anyone know what year was the new part factory installed and if it is susceptible to failure too?

This last weekend I installed a full set of Ragan Fab Werks fairing support brackets to reinforce my stock brackets on my 07 FLHT. I just installed a Biketronics radio kit and with the extra weight of the radio, and especially the speakers, I felt I could end up with cracked brackets. So I got these off Ebay (after hearing about them in this forum) and installed them over the top of my existing un-broken brackets. These supports are stainless steel and precision made. They fit perfect only requiring some holes to be drilled. Here are some pics of the radio set up and the brackets.
I have to agree...this stuff is top notch! My brackets had not failed...but it was just a matter of time!
Ragan's is great. You get the complete kit, bolts, nylon lock nuts and new drill bit to drill with. You don't drill the stainless pieces just the original brackets they mate up with. Here's his site where you can order direct from with a video demo on the install. I think it's a good deal. http://www.nwmachine.com/rfw//Gallery.htm
My 05 has almost 80,000 miles and mine orginal's aren't broken. But have been thinking about these. Have a friend tell me about them several months ago. Looks like an easy fix to the problem..
