Tried a search, not any luck. On my previous bike, I did most all my mechanical but never had a good torque wrench. Well now, with my new Ultra Limited, I want to do it right.
What torque wrench does everyone use on their Harley for general maintenance? It looks like 2 will be necessary. One for inch pounds and one for foot pounds. I have looked on line but figure I would go straight to the ones who actually use them on their bikes.
Thanks
Look at your manual, have a look at the range that you needs to cover.
get a "click" type, rather than a "beam" which uses a needle indicator.
The click type has springs inside which can stretch if left tensioned, so always return it to "0" after use.
Tempting though it is, do not buy used, as 1 hard drop and they need recalibrating.
Due to my many machines and activities I have 5 torque wrenches in various ranges, incl. a 1/4" inch pound.
the range I use most is probably 15 to 50 foot pounds, 3/8" drive.
Using extensions will change your readings, the wrench will likely have a chart to help you with that.
The big 150 foot pound stuff, I just use a 1 foot breaker bar and get my 150 pound wife to stand on it....
Most of the inch pound stuff is not crucial
and sometimes you can use a foot pound wrench : 12 inch pounds = 1 foot pound.
Wish I had access to the chart I found a while back but as an example if you'r using a 6 inch extension and torquing a true 90 degrees there is no change in the torque. 50 psi is still 50 psi.
Do NOT buy a cheap torque wrench! I use snap-on because I have them in my tool box....I'd recommend craftsman or any "name brand" for accuacy reasons! Especially if you're gonna do any work on the engine....spend the $$$ to get some quality torque wrenches! You'll be surprised how often you need them....once they're in your toolbox.

I would recommend Harbor Freight. If I was using them daily I might go with the more expensive tools but I use them infrequently. I'm sure I found a way to use the extra bucks.
