2012 Limited Ultra, interchangeability Question
Thanks!
IdahoTrain (Need to change that to IdahoClassic now lol)
Get a PC V or other "tuneable" tuner.....Are you doing the air cleaner? and most things will be interchangeable......call Jamie at Fuelmoto.........he can answer ANY tuner questions you will have and not try to fill ya full of b.s......
Ride your bike as it is for awhile.
that gives you time to really zero in on what changes ( if any) you want to make, and what your budget is.
Use that time to read the posts here from riders asking questions about their "tuning systems".
My own biased thoughts:
My pal has the V&H, a little loud for me, when i ride his bike or ride behind him. the X pipe drags on right turns. You have the grind down the clamp on the crossover underneath the tranny, or it'll hang up on speed bumps. ( that could have just been crap work by his dealer, I ground off the excess bolt after he told me it was banging)
I've been riding Harleys for years- I know that if you want to go fast, get a Kawasaki too- it's cheaper than trying to make a Harley go fast.
The H-D batwing fairing contributes to an unstable bike above 85 mph or so, be aware and realise that most of our riding is below that, and most times the rpms are closer to 3000 than 6000 ( consider that when getting "performance" parts.
In your shoes, I'd:
Remove the cat from the header pipes ( search for tutorial), that is the flow- bottleneck, from there any pipes will improve, the stock mufflers may do all you want or:
Get a nice set of slip ons, cheap. ( I use tunable supertrapps)
Hi flow air cleaner; I find the Ness Big Sucker to be a tidy install. Uses the stock cover which hides the ugly wires to the rear on the intake, chrome backing plate makes for easy wipe off when washing. washable oiled "K&N" style filter media.
$115 shipped from easternpc on ebay
Tuning? all my Pals who laid out bucks for tuners are either having problems, don't klnow if it did anything ( SE race tuner) or don't care that they only get 32 MPG and blast soot out the pipes
I use Nightrider.com XIEDS, inexpensive, plug and play, easily removed should the bike go to the dealer for a warranty problem. and pretty effective.
But it's your bike, your needs---take your time.
With my current bike I put 3000 miles on it completely stock, to see what it did--- I had a ping problem under certain but normal conditions.
Put on my slip ons and tuned my pipes ( my supertrapps are tunable), performance increase but ping problem remained.
Put on XIEDS, ping went away, mileage remained very close ( 44 mpg-ish) and pipes sounded a little deeper, I think
Put on Ness big sucker, performance increased more, ping still gone.
have put on another 7000 miles like this with nothing but smiles- and not a lot of cash laid out.
If you spend wisely on each bike, you can have more bikes in the garage!
( BTW the PC V is the power commander 5 tuning module)

That leaves me with one more question right now, I can get a set of Sceamin Eagle 2's off of an 04 i think for 50$ to hold me over till I get the 700 plus parts to do it right, would the SE2s work without changing any settings or needing a tuner/fuelpak ?
Thanks everyone!
