I keep getting a smell after riding long distances. Since I live in a rural area we ride mainly on the highway. I think my biggest problem is oil getting from the head breather holes in to the throttle body then burned in the cylinder. My air breather get's soaked with oil on the bottom. Not bad enough to drip on the bike but enough to coat my finger.
Is there a way to vent the crankcase without using the air breather? Here is a pic of my set up. I took my finger and wiped the oil film off my throttle blade.
My motor is a 98" GMR kit that has 14,000 miles since install. It feels strong and the plugs look great.
Anyone else have this problem? What is the best fix?
most of us with this problem drop the oil level to the low end of the dipstick, which represents about a .5 quart change from the high end of the dipstick.
Leave it alone. And its not your oil level if it not over the full mark when hot. The oil tank is separate from your engine sump and the breather system is in the head. At rpm above 3K a little oil vapor gets by the baffles and filter screen. There are baffle valve but they are one way and in, not out so they do not control what you see which is normal for this engine. Just wipe the drool off old girls chin and keep getting up. That little film you see on the air throttle plate is fine. Mine has 40K and looks same way and it affects nothing. That smell is all the exhaust people dump all over you..HA
