I was wondering that same thing when I posted my initial response. Could it be a Mustang backrest that's made for their seat trying to go into an HD backrest mounting bracket?

Well scratch my last post. Just looked at the Mustang web site and the adjustment screw is on the correct side according to the instruction sheet and pic's.

My only other guess would be that the seat shown is not a Mustang seat and thats what is causing the problem.

Add a short piece between the frame bolt & the front mount bolt. It'll let the mount lean back a little. Had to do that with my first Harley backrest. I used a piece of soft iron from a hardware store.

Interesting it shows that on the Mustang site. Doesnt make sense cause you couldnt easily make any adjustments while riding. The screw would be down into the seat.
My screw is on the back like Chunker's photo and fits and works perfectly.

OP, my backrest pushed my stock seat forward like you show. I eventually went with a Mustang solo and its fits like it should. Does look like you got something backwards, though.

The black bracket only goes on one way, so it can't be backwards. And the black bracket is what's pushing the seat forward. And yes, this application is supposed to work with a Harley seat.

This is what I am talking about, how the black bracket is smashed against the rider part of the seat. I've sent an email to Mustang but no reply yet.

Hmmmm, mine fits perfect. Me thinks something's wrong with your bracket.

Depending on the seat, and how far forward you mount the bracket on the fender, then yes, they can do that. Or the opposite, if you mount the bracket rearward.

Your seat is not a mustang seat, hence part of the issue. It WORKS, but trust me, Harley seats have the backrest slot located all over the place forward and backward, depending on the seat. Since yours looks like a CVO seat, as I remember, that seat had this issue even with Harley's backrests, because that seat is designed to sit the rider further back, and hence the backrest slot moves further back.

If I recall correctly, the super touring seat has the receiver built into the seat itself, like the Mustang 2 piece seats do. Totally different animal.

The adjustment screw is backwards. It sould be on the other side and above the crossbar. See the pic below.

Solo seats are different.
