Is this normal for a Mustang backrest?

I don't get it. Looks like a Harley or other seat with a Mustang backrest. Mine also looks like SciFiGuy's

Well, I put the stock seat back on and the backrest bracket works perfectly. So it's the CVO seat that's causing the problem.

So could you bend it for the CVO seat?

No, that bracket is pretty stout, and it needs to go back about an inch or more.

I had my stock seat modified to move me back a 1 1/2". I used the Mustang backrest but egged the holes in the mounting bracket and then added three or four washers as spacers under the front mounting point. This tilts the backrest toward the rear. Works perfect.

Three straps to move the mounting holes back the inch or more. Pad the fender to prevent scratching. Or, fab up a plate to use the three existing holes & add space for mounting holes further back. Make that out of metal stiff enough to prevent bending down to the fender.
