the street glide is basically a EG standard, dressed up a little and WAY over priced for what it is.. it didnt make sense to offer both bikes, the standard was really a stripped down ugly bike..it looked like a stripped civil duty bike.. the police bikes are dressed up better then the standard were, that is why its gone. the electraglide classic is harleys signature bike.. i cant ever see it being discontinued..then again who ever is in charge of the moco is making some bad style/model decisions latley..
I have a 99 Standard. And if I were to buy another new HD, I'd be looking at another Standard. BUT, seeing as they don't offer them anymore, I'd be looking at something else, as in different brand.

The streetglide is Harleys best selling bike so it must be "WAY overpriced for what it is.."
It is more likely imo that the Limited and Ultra will merge as they are even more similar now, and leave the Classic as a more afordable alternative and/or for people who don't want all the other accoutrements that you pay for with the Ultra/Limited.
With the liquid cooling comming, all touring bike may have to have the lowers ( that's where the radiator will be),
If that actually happens, it may be on it's way out. But who knows.
I went into the local dealer a couple of weeks ago. They didn't have any Classics or Ultras but had several Limiteds andRoad Glide Ultras. I lthink its the dealers just ordering bikes with the larger profit margins.
This could be true. In my area there is plenty of Ultras and Limiteds and Street Glides but no Classics. They also all say they don't expect any classics anytime soon.
I had an 06 EG Standard and loved it.Moved up to an 09 Classic,it has everything I want.I can't see me going up to an Ultra or Limited in the future. If a model does dissappear I think it will be the Ultra.
My stripped down ugly bike. I guess I better trade it in for a Yamaha FJR1300. I hate ugly bikes.

It all depends on the numbers, any manufacturer will dispose of a line that is not popular and selling. Times change, people change and of course, the trends. It appears the next generation is looking for the different, the unique, the strange.
The way things are going, Harley may be forced to temporily drop the line but it will be back.
