We carry all our camping gear plus the boyz, Tater and Tot. Trailer weighs 180lbs empty and around 350lbs with all our camping gear.

I used to pull an Aluma trailer to save on hotel costs. It allowed for space for a good air mattress, full size pillow, etc. Then one year looking at my trip pictures I noticed I had quite a few pictures of my bike and trailer in front of hotels. As I get older at the end of a day’s riding I am looking for an air-conditioned hotel with a Jacuzzi and HBO.

I like www.mchitch.com for hitches.

Now you see it…

Now you don’t…

I would also highly recommend a swivel adapter. You can Google it if your not familiar.

But I have seen some pretty nice trailers. Some for cargo. Some for camping. Some for pets.

Some just follow behind and some have brakes.

And, of course you have probably seen this one....

Talk about the tail wagging the dog!!!

But, for those of you who do pull a trailer...

Which receiver, ball, hitch do you use?
Is there another piece of equipment that you have incorporated into your system?
Which trailer do you pull?
Just cargo? Or, a camping trailer?

What have you learned about doing so?
Did you once but now don't for some reason? Perhaps a bad experience?

What about laws. Are you aware of any laws about motorcycle trailering that you have come across?
You may be restricted to the right hand lane except when passing and might be limited to 55mph in California. The fine for violating 55mph when towing is stout.

Which receiver, ball, hitch do you use?

1-7/8" ball; hitch is attached to a Voyager trike kit that is attached to my Goldwing. Voyager tells me that their hitch is capable of hauling up to 300lbs, inc the weight of the trailer. BTW, this kit also fits my UC, so if I had a hankerin' to haul a trailer with it, I'd probably buy the belly brackets and move the trike kit over to it.

Is there another piece of equipment that you have incorporated into your system?
Which trailer do you pull?

Northern Tool 48Lx40W trailer w/8" wheels.

Just cargo? Or, a camping trailer?

Cargo.

What have you learned about doing so?

On a trike, hauling a trailer is no big deal, except that depending on the carrier you use to haul stuff, it can mask the rear lights on your bike leaving only the trailer brake lights as a warning to the cars behind you. That's the one thing that bothers me. I may put a very low profile carrier on mine for that very reason; the lights on the back of my bikes are WAY more visible than the trailer lights.

Did you once but now don't for some reason? Perhaps a bad experience?

None here in VA. In fact, a trailer without brakes doesn't even need to be safety inspected.

Like Potato, I also use MCHITCH. Their hitch and wiring harness are easy to install and do the trick. I pull a Piggybacker one or two times a year depending on the trip and if the chippie is along for the ride.
