Our local dealer has advertised 2.9% APR on used 2004 and newer models as well as 2.99% APR on new 2011 and 2012 models. Makes trading in my ride tempting as I think I would end up with a cheaper payment for a brand new bike. What am I missing?

What got me looking at a touring bike back in feb was a dealer about 70 miles away advertising 0% for 48 months on 2011 touring bikes. Well when it it was all done and I bought a 2011 SG it was from my local dealer that was much better. Local dealer was 2k better on the deal and the interest was only like $750 for the life of the loan. So I still saved $1250 after interest.
Another dealer but same owner was offereing a 3k gift card with new bike purchase so a buddy went to try and do a deal They gave him the offer and he was like and I get a 3k gift card and they said no thats with us keeping the gift card.
Its used as a draw. That doesnt mean you cant get a good deal but just make sure you look at all aspects of the deal.
If your near by , sure stop in say hi, but be ready for the list of limits of such. Its a common thing for dealers (not just HD) to throw out these kinda sales pitches. Fine print says "very good credit". I would call and ask what the credit score is that required.
right away, you say "lower payment" that's exactly their line..."lower payment"--- then they pile on extras and before you know it the loan is years longer than you'd thought.
IF you can get lower payment and less overall paid out, then look into it.
But very doubtful that you'd get best price on new bike and best price on your trade.
Smart thing? less chrome, pay off your current loan earlier.
I tell you there is no bargaining power like cash when you are looking, you determine all the terms.
When you need to finance it is their game.
They want to get you emotionally hooked so you will convince yourself that a crap deal is gold.
