Default Sportech audio kit connection

Just about to complete my Sportech batwing install on my '10 RKC after getting it back from painters. I only wanted a simple stereo option so went with the audiokit which is just speakers, amp and mp3/usb connection for music player (no head unit etc), suits me fine.

I bought the HD accessory cigar lighter plug and have cut this up, mounted the cigar lighter end into the fairing for GPS and spliced the wires into the power and earth side of the stereo harness. I now have the male plug from the cigar lighter and intend to use this to connect to the accessory plug under the seat, there will be a quick disconnect up by the neck under the nacelle, no probs so far and all tidy.

My question is this, the stereo harness has 3 wires, black for ground, red for live and orange for switch. I will splice the red and black wires onto the corresponding tails on the male plug (left when I cut off the cigar lighter) and that will plug into the accessory socket, where should I take the orange switch wire?

Thanks

Mark

Mark, this will be more of a bump for your thread than an answer to your question because I'm far more familiar with Electra Glide/Street Glide wiring than I am with RK wiring; and, I have no familiarity with the fairing or wiring associated with the fairing you have.

You have a toggle switch on the left side, opposite the head lamp switch that is a switched circuit. You can splice the control wire to that switch or use the accessory connector under the seat that is controlled by the aforementioned toggle switch.

If you use the accessory connector under the seat, you can buy the mating connnector and necessary socket, etc. using HD p/n's from this link:

Good luck with your project.

Default appreciate the reply harleypingman

I will be using the accessory plug under the seat controlled by the toggle switch. I had pretty much confirmed in my head to use the onboard socket and the plug from the cigar lighter.

The red and black wires will go into the plug so I will have a switchable power supply to the fairing and all shuts down when ignition off.

the 3rd wire is a switch wire, my thoughts were to just piggyback to the red wire as it is a switched live anyway. I`ll try this out later and see if that works.

Unless anybody has other ideas!

Cheers

Default We have power

Piggy backing the switch wire to the switched live from the plug worked a treat. Took the tank off and routed harness in the tray.

Tip, for anybody doing electricals on there 08 + touring dont be afraid of removing the fuel tank, 5 minute job and so much easier to route cables to the battery or accessory plugs.

Will post pictures of completed install later.

Default Good Ol' Milwauke Shaker

Greetings Tooloudman, thank's for taking the time to shed a little light on a very interesting and relevant subject. I just installed a Sportech fairing on my 03 Road King. I dig the look, functionality and aerodynamic advantage at 80+ miles per hour. However, the only bugger is the fact that the son of gun shakes and rattles when I'm at a stop light. I cushioned the rattle a little by applying weatherstripping in between the inner and outer fairing but it's only a slight difference. Is this a common issue with these sportech farings? I'm guessing it's due to the flexibility of the material they are composed of? Not a major big deal. The most important question is: IS THE AUDIO KIT WORTH PURCHASING?????
Most appreciative,
Prospect Joe
