Any dealer that tells you any loss of control is "common" or that the manufacturer is aware, but has no solution, is lying to you. They have no credibility if they lie to you.
I had a vibration on my '11 RGC, and I had checked the steering head bearing and tire pressures. Turned out to be a cupped rear tire at only 3500 miles. The dealer would not replace the tire, stating it was not an unsafe condition. I ended up replacing my wheels and the new Metzelers smoothed things out.
Lot of talk about this at www.roadglide.com. Seems to have originated after new frame in 09 and a lot of people are saying it was steering head issues. Seems to be hit or miss with a lot of hits. MoCo knows about issue.
One of our local HOG members recently had an uncontrollable bar shaking with his new 2011 RG Ultra at around 65-70 Mph. He went down, and the guy behind hit him. Big mess, but they'll both be OK, after some mending/recuperation. Both bikes were totaled.
I wasn't there and didn't see it, but reportedly they were flat & level, at steady speed. Last I heard, there was no explanation for the shaking. Kinda nervous making...
Had the exact same decel shake problem with a Yamaha Roadstar and having the steering head bearings tightened solve the problem. Just because it's new and low mileage doesn't mean they were adjusted correctly at the factory.
Yah, makes me a bit nervous as well. Never had it shake accellerating, just coasting slowing down. Soon as you grip the bars it stops. I have had it out on the highway up to 140 kph and no problem at all, only around the 50 range. I dont buy the explanation but will see after they ck it out. They have been a good dealer and provided good service on my prior bikes, hopefully a fix is near. I have a feeling some of it is attributed to one of the front calipers. I know they tend to drag but the right side is really caught up. After a good rip with little use of the brakes you cant touch the right at all, too hot, and the left is warm too the touch. So much for a PDI!!!
