Default Carbs?

2006 should be Fuel injected. That means no carb problems.

'06 was the last year carbs were available. Wish I had one of those myself - so easy to tune and easier on the wallet as well.
No problems with those keihin carbs for years. A Dyno Jet kit will get you an adjustable needle and a couple of jets, you'll appreciate the needle when you start adding air filters and pipes.
keep an eye on the cam chain tensioners - the only weak link on the 88" motor. They can be changed out to either gear drive or the newer style hydraulics.

+1 on this. I would be more worried about the cam shoes then anything else on this bike although with only 8k on the clock you are probably fine for another 20k (some people have had to replace them sooner so have it checked).

I bought mine 18 months ago off a buddy, I put a big bore kit in it with gear driven cams, and diff exhaust. In that time frame I have put over 18K on the bike with no issues. Good luck in what ever you choose.

I'm a firm believer in gear drive set-ups. They are trouble free and you'll never again have to fret over cam chain wear pads. Even the newer hydraulic style wear out at some point.
My bike has a pretty radical cam and 10.5/1 pistons @ 95" with Rinehart exhaust that I detuned due to excessive exhaust noise. Man those pipes get noisy when you through some compression and cam overlap at them. Way too loud - so loud that I couldn't risk whacking the throttle open without alerting every LEO within 5 miles.
So I installed some quiet baffles and re-tuned the PCIII. It still makes just under 100/100 and it's way more discrete when I open the throttle.
Find a combination that will net 90-100 hp/tq and you'll have great reliability plus you'll smile every time you have to pass someone (actually you'll look for any reason to just turn that motor lose).
