Just got back from a wonderfull weekend in the hill country, what a blast. For those of you that dont know what the 3 sisters are, they are 3 farm to market roads in Texas that take you up into the hill country for some awesome riding. This was the wife and I's first time doing the ride and what a ride it was. Lots of twisty winding roads and some beautiful scenery. Anyone living in Texas or visiting should do this ride at least once. We have acess to a house in Bandera which is about 16 miles from the start of the ride and will definatley be going back. Here are a few pics from our first ride hope you enjoy them.
Hope ya had a great time on tha Sisters! We hit it about 4x a year. We have been staying at the Kayote Ranch on 16 just north of Medina the last few times. I do not envy ya the heat this past weekend or anytime this last month. I actually passed up a trip down there cause of the temps from here in the DFW area.
Started real early, wasnt bad at all, wife said she was a little cold at the begining, felt like A/C to me. Cant wait to go back especially in the cooler fall months to come. Word of caution, if you start early or really anytime, be on the look out for deer, we saw bunches of em even later in the day when it got warmer.
Stop in Leakey at the Leakey Feed Lot for the best Chicken Fried Steak in the state according to bon Appoteit magazine. The owners are real nice people. Met them at a jimmy Buffet concert.
The 3 Sisters is a great ride, we've done it a few times. Leakey Feed Lot is good, so is "Hill Country Barbecue" across the street - good biscuits and gravy and cheap.
There are cabins to rent in Leakey that are pretty nice: http://friolodging.com/. We've stayed there before with other couples and you bring food, beer, etc they have grill, utensils, everything. For us in San Antonio, makes the sisters ride a little easier because we don't have the extra 90 miles from SA to Leakey - you can start right at 336 or 337.
