I have new SE 10mm plug wires and have tried different plugs. When I switched from SE plugs back to stock 6R12's the bike runs great. I have checked wire resistance just for fun too.
I'm gonna keep it simple. My dealer has dyno'd my bike three time trying to figure out my performance issue. I decided to return to stock plugs because I had nothing else to lose.
Prior to the final dyno during my break-in she ran great. It was after the tuner recommended I switch to Screamin Eagle plugs that the problem started.
BTW, the basic stock plug is too hot for the my high compression motor...especially in Florida :-)
the anti knock system is calibrated to stock plugs. hotter or colder plugs only effect anti fouling properties and do not change engine temps. as hot as these bikes run, you don't need hotter plugs to keep the spark plug tips clear.
10R12s for VROD, 2 steps colder, been running them most of this season in a simple stage I 88" SG, but I can't say there is any improvement. Still noticed a little pinginging on the 100+F days. If compression is an issue tighten up the gap a little. I used the Autolites too, they work but the contact nipple isn't fixed like the HD plugs, it's the tread on type and it was loose everytime I checked it.
That's a good point and I had problems with this too. I ended-up applying a small dab of Loctite (red would be best) to the nipple and that kept it from moving. Too much would interfere with flow of current, I would think, so be conservative.

Installed V-rod Plugs, Rode about 30 miles today gassin it, crusin it, even lugging it a little. No Pinging at all. 2011 Limited with K&N element in stock A/C Housing, V&H twin slash slip-ons. Had the Night-Rider "V-ieds" on since bike was new. The engine has always pinged after warm-up with ambient temps in the eighties regardless of the setting on the "V-ied" dials. When I checked the stock Spark Plugs the rear was a light gray, the front nearly pure white. If that ain't an indication of "LEAN" I'll kiss your ugly, er.... Dog! Why should I or anyone pay $25,000 for a new Bike, and then have to pay another $2000 to make it run right? Shitty deal!

Doesnt cost $2k for a decent tuner to help make it run right. My PCV only ran me $300 delivered, youll pay more than that for an average set of pipes. Keep in mind HD has to contend with epa compliant bikes.
