Yes you can use standard speakers but the downside is regular speakers with paper cones are can/will warp from moisture.

I put Kappa Infinity 62.9i which have a polypropylene coating that will work. So if you are looking for speakers just make sure that are poly's.

BUT paper speaker cones can be scotchguarded- just follow the instruction on the can, do the front and as much of the rear as you can cover- a light coating is best. A heavy coating will dampen the speakers transient response

You don't want to aim the hose right at them on washday.

go with Infinity's I have them in my RG; went with JBL's on my SG -- they suck badly -- changing them out as soon as I can

I just installed 4 of these puppies. They sound pretty good in the garage. We'll see how they do on the test ride tomorrow.

When buying speakers keep in mind that there are low end to top end performance speakers of all major brands. Just because someone doesn't like a particular speaker doesn't mean entire line is bad. Everyone's ears are different, some prefer more highs other miss and so forth. Wind noise, speed, exhaust noise, windshield highth, ambient noises all factor into depletion of sound quality. Amps definitely help, good luck. Keep in mind that component speakers always sound better than two way speakers. You just have to find location for tweeters.
