Default HD Axle Nut Covers..replacement allen screws?

I bought the HD axle nut covers for my 2010 Ultra...used the allen wrench that came with the kit and barely tightened the allen screw past hand tight...I didn't pull hard just a slight tug to make sure it was tight...the inside of the allen head rounded out immediately...had to use an easy out tool to get it out...any ideas on a better replacement screw to hold these on? You'd think HD would include either and extra set of screws or make them out of something other than soft aluminum. I asked the local dealer and they said I should have removed the loctite from the threads before installing. Directions made no mention of that, so why would I?. Anyone else had this problem with the axle nut covers? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Just run to your local hardware store and pick up some new set screws. I actually stripped one out. The thread size is 8-32.

Yes. Same story here. Thank you, China!

Good idea on those 8/32 set screws. The axle nut covers are actually nice. Both the set screws and Allen keys are garbage.

The original screws were probly stainless which are soft compared to alloy set screws.
The drawback with the black oxide alloy screws is they can rust.
