2007 new-to-me RK. I knew what I was getting myself into after 23 years on the same FLHTC. No this. No that.
But I really miss the gauges. No tach is not a serious problem. But engine temp, volt meter and oil pressure. Somehow it just doesn’t feel right. I’m now depending on idiot lights.
I am not going to pay $600 for an all in one gauge that goes in the speedo spot. Maybe Craigslist will provide something reasonable some day but I’m not counting on it.
Anyone else feel this way? What did you do? I don’t want to start hanging a lot of different stuff on the handlebars – I got the RK for the clean and simple look. I miss my tunes but I really miss my gauges. I had no idea how much I would.
I have a roadking and missed my gauges too! so i started looking for deals in Craigslist, eBay, Salvage Companies, and came up with enough stuff to make my roadking an Ultra, had about $2000.00, then i had to buy a new wiring harness, for the Ultra, that stuck me for $800
It took me about 5 months in the winter to switch it out, but now I'm glad I did it.
This time, I purchased a oil temp gauge, where the air temp gauge was, a went with a Sony radio, and upgraded speakers, beats my old harley radio.
I'm very happy again, Now I think I might purchase an 2012, Ultra classic, $25,000 is awful salty these days of economic issues.
again, very happy
My engine temp gauge is the inside of my thighs. You said you bought the RK for the clean and simple look. If you added gauges and tunes, it wouldn't be clean and simple. Besides, I'm too busy looking out for idiots in cages to check gauges.
When I bought my 09 RKC I was so excited just to get it and go I did not realize how much I would miss the gauges, mostly the tach. I installed the nachelle mounted tach and bought the digital temp gauge for the oil, alls good now.
Check out the now power commander power tune. One of the options ia a gauge display that can show pretty much any info that you want, plus it water proof and shock proof.
Mount it on the handlebar and you have pretty much anything you want.
