Okay, that's bizarre!!! We recently had a ant problem and had to call out an exterminator. Luckily, that was before I had my bike. I can't figure out why they attacked the bike.
And I agree with someone who suggested taking the inner fairing off and checking in there. If a few can get into your gauges, thousands could be elsewhere! I've killed hundreds of thousands of the little bastardos before giving up and calling a pro.
But, I did hear that ants won't cross a chalk line, and, if you can find a major trail to put down some instant grits. The ants will pick up the grits, take it back to their nest, and all the ants will feed on it. Then when the grits get moist in their stomachs, it swells, blowing up the ants.
Pop your faring clean out the obvious ants then get Terro traps this will get rid of the source for sure, I liv in Fla and this is the only stuff that works 100%. Home depot carrys this stuff, I use the version below in link.
That stuff didn't work for me. The ants couldn't get back out to take the bait to their nest. Hundreds of dead ants in the baits, but no where near all the ants were killed.
Yeah I had same thing happen at foirst then I cut the trap so they could get in and out.

LOL.. I should send the pick to HD to see if they have gotten all the bugs out. Great response. I opened the fairing and pulled the gauges to clean them out. Looks like I may need a new air temp gauge - stuck on 20 degrees and that's just depressing. I sprayed my garage floor with some RAID outdoor bug killer. Maybe it had something to do with Irene that drove the ants in - who knows. Thanks y'all.
You could sprinkle some of that white powder ant poison in the fairing. It might be interesting trying to explain if you got stopped for a ticket though. How often do you ride it?
I ride everyday except this past weekend when Irene came through.
