My experience went basically from "dirt" and dual sport to my Road King. I was surprised how easy it was to ride when I first did. Just take it real easy on it for awhile, especially in the slow riding and coming to stops. I've been on mine for years and have never dropped it. It's the best bike they have IMO. It's very versatile. I switch out full shield, to aftermarket fairing to nothing all of the time. It's like 3 different bikes. Getting mine was the best choice I've ever made. But, that's just me.

Not much chance you will find a used one though.
He wants a Road King not a Road Queen.

I say go for it. You ain't going to have no problem going to a street bike, it's a motorcycle and you already know how to ride a motorcycle. A RK is big but that ain't no biggie. Just take it slow at first.

I went through this same thing about a year ago before I got my first HD. Put a ton of miles on metrics in my younger days but was without a bike for almost 15 years. I knew it was going to be an HD and settled on a used 06 RKC, 7000 miles, bought from a private party off craigslist. Stage 1, sundowner seat, lots of extras all already done by 1st owner and set up perfect for me. I've doubled the miles in less than a year and have no regrets. Wild Prairie HD (St Paul HD's sister store in Eden Prairie) has been great to deal with for the few needs that I've had.
Great deals to be had on craigslist. Lots of good, low mile "garage queens" out there. Save thousands over buying off the showroom floor, even on used. Took me all of about 10 minutes on the day I bought it to get comfortable and haven't looked back.
Good luck!

Just don't be a HERO and try to keep up with those EXPERIENCED RIDERS. Take it easy and have your buds follow YOU!

Both the Switchback and the Deluxe look better than our Road Kings. Let's not kid ourselves, we gain a decent amount of ugliness in exhange for the touring frame.

I just got back from having Heritage Classic bars put on my RK. Man, what a difference!!!

I'm not reaching for the bars anymore, and low speed maneuvering is way better now!! And I sit more upright now. I'm 5'11".

The only issue is I seem to be getting more air to my face with my hands now up a little bit. Definitely going to get those fork lowers now.

Don't know where you get that idea? As for the op, get exactly what you want. You'll regret it otherwise.

Looking at the specs on the RKC, what does the security system consist of?
