Are those 1157 LED bulbs a Harley-Davidson part/part number? Do you just simply change them out? If this is a fix I will go pick some up this weekend.Any mention of a recall?
HD makes LED replacement kit for flat-lens turn signals, practically giving them away for only $140/pair , but they won't fit your SG. I didn't see any on their site for the bullet lights, but as you know there are aftermarket varieties. The Ride Time Technology and Custom Dynamics look identical to me and you can find the latter for $58 with free shipping from Eastern Performance Cycles. I didn't see any 1157 type on their site but I know they sell them since a friend just bought some for his '10 SG this week. He isn't having problems, just wants more light in the rear.

There are a few options for the LED replacement/upgrade.
First off, I don't believe the Harley part is worth while. $140 is a lot for one reason, but but mostly, most people would probably have to pay for the installation due to the fact the Harley part replaces the entire socket and wire harness. And, the socket and harness don't seem to be the problem here.
There are plug and play LED bulbs that seem like to cost effective solution to me.
Thanks for all the help. When bulb #5 (in less than a year) stops working I will go with an LED set up.I keep hoping Harley will issue a recall, but I spoke to my dealer this morning and they said they haven't even heard of this.
i had a prob on my rigid mount softail and ended up putting in a led 10,000 miles later looks like new. maybe they are vibrating too much causing them to burn out
Not just a SG problem. My 11 Ultra goes through bulbs like a hooker through condoms. Took it to the dealer and they said they heard Moco had a bad batch of bulbs. My question was why is it always the left bulb (frt and back) but never the right?
I'm considering the Moco LED option because
A. - it should cure the problem
B. - It's brighter, quicker to illuminate, and therefore theoretically safer
C. - self contained - no load equalizer necessary.
Yes - it is pricey. I got my dealer down to about $300 for the full set with matching tail light. It's supposedly plug and play and not too difficult to install. Still, I would rather spend my money on things that truly enhance the performance on my bike, not fix a factory problem.
No, that doesn't help you SG guys at all. Kuryaken has some LED clusters that might work on your bikes and if you do a search, others have used various LED suppliers, but almost all require a load equalizer.
I've had my Ultra Classic for 4 months (6,000 miles). So far, I've had to replace both front running lights and my right tour pack bulb. So, it doesn't look like it's only Streetglides that are doing this. I think it's the crappy 198 bulbs they are using. I've been replacing them with 1157LL bulbs.
