Default Street Glide buffeting fixed by accident

I found a cure for me but I don't like the looks or feel. I have an 09 SG with 10.5" Clearview recurve shield that is about nose high, lower fairings and C&C solo seat that sits me down and back 1" father then stock. I have tried different shields, Freedom wings and lower fairings. All helped to some degree but still the buffeting was bothersome. For the first time last night I put on a 2011 Ultra stock seat I bought here on the forum for the times I need to ride two up. Went for a ride and NO buffeting even at 75 mph! This new seat I would say sits me a good 2" forward and 2" up. The shield now is just below my chin and the wind still hits me just at the top of my head. I hate the look of the sofa on my SG and because I sit so far forward I feel cramped as hell. Thers got to be a correlation somewhere that I can tap into. Any Thoughts?

I have the Mustang Vintage Solo and it sits me a little lower than stock. I'm 5'11" and the 8.5" Klockwerks shield has had the best result for me. Puts the wind right at the top of my head. Wife says its better for her as well.

I believe you said it. The seat moves you forward which is putting your face closer to the windscreen.

The seat moved you into the "pocket" of quiet air that your fairing and shield produce. This is the harest part for us on a Road Glide to get correct because the fairing and Shield are farther away from the rider than on a batwing or Windshield bike. Its usually a lot les of a problem for you batwing riders.

If you think about it there is not much complaints from the RK guys running windshields about buffeting, a little more from the Batwing riders and more from the Road Glide Riders.

What you need to do is figure out if you can move that quiet air back farther to be able to use your other seat. This usually is not a matter of a taller shield but a change in the way the shield directs the air back and over / around the rider . Sometimes the recurve type shields work to move the pocket better than a taller one. On a Road Glide Ive found the Cee Bailey, Klockwerks style shield with the "hips" and a recurve makes the best rider quiet pocket

Where is the wind coming from that is causing your buffeting? If it is coming from below you might try some fork leg wind deflectors.

I have a LRS shield, bat wing wind deflectors, the air baffle for the bottom triple tree and just put the fork leg wind deflectors on. I get just a little breeze with NO buffeting at any speed, well up to 90 so far. These things work GREAT, may not be the look for some.

Stock seat and handle bars.

I think xaran hit it on the head.

You can move the pocket around using different size windshields ( up and down as well as front to back ).

I thought I read that a windshield around eye-level will move the air just over
your head ( into the passenger ). I guess that depends of course on how far back
you are.

Yep, getting a recurve windshield the same length of my non recurve moved the dead space back about 1.5 to 2 inches.

I know you said you tried var Sheilds. Did you try any taller non recurve Sheilds? My experience with clearview was that while I did kick the wind up, it also created a lot more turbulence. I wound up going back to a 9 inch regular Shield, and it got rid of most of the buffeting. I've since gone to the windsplitter, but would be curious as to what shields you have tried. As for the seat, sounds like moving you forward is what put you into cleaner air.

The cure for Buffeting is a Black Art to say the least, what works for one guys makes it worse for the next. My 6th windshield (now on order) is a Cee Bailey’s, I hope it’s the cure for me!!

I had the stock shield = bad. Then 10.5" Clearview = much improved. 11.5" Clearview = no change from the 10.5". 10" LRS Xtream = somewhere between the 10.5 Clearview and stock. LRS 10" Ultra Flip Flat Top = best but made it look like my SG was wearing a top hat. Thinking that Cee Bailey may be on to something with their SSC. I see that a 12" may be in my future.
