Just put a set of fairing mounted deflectors on. Its amazing how much buffeting they knock down. I run a Sundowner, fairing deflectors and a fork baffle along with the 8.5" Klockwerks and have virtually no buffeting. The windshield isn't the only variable for buffeting.
Look into a Cee Bailey's SSC windshield. It is curved towards the rider rather than straight up with a re-curve. This will bring the windshield closer to you rather than you using a seat that moves you closer to the windshield. Plus, it looks good on a Street Glide.
I'm running either a Clark's half moon shield or LRS shield (experimenting with both). With either shield, I have a lot of dead air in front of me. Maybe too much dead air, which makes it easier for the air coming past the forks and up over the tank to intrude into your space. So my next mod is fork deflectors to hopefully tame that air coming up over the tank.
As was said, taming the buffeting is black science. Hopefully you'll hit on the perfect mix of seat, shield, and deflectors sooner or later.
I had the stock shield = bad. Then 10.5" Clearview = much improved. 11.5" Clearview = no change from the 10.5". 10" LRS Xtream = somewhere between the 10.5 Clearview and stock. LRS 10" Ultra Flip Flat Top = best but made it look like my SG was wearing a top hat. Thinking that Cee Bailey may be on to something with their SSC. I see that a 12" may be in my future.
So It looks like aside from the stock one, all of them have had some kind of recurve?
Might want to try a fastair flat (non-recurve) shield, in 9-10" range. They are pretty cheap. I personally did NOT have good luck with recurve shields. The Windsplitter is the only formed shield that I liked so far, but its probably shorter than you want to go, although they are coming out with a 10" model.
The cure for Buffeting is a Black Art to say the least, what works for one guys makes it worse for the next. My 6th windshield (now on order) is a Cee Baileys, I hope its the cure for me!!
Ive had great luck with my Cee Bailey on my RG (different set up than the batwing) but the reason its worked is the angle of the TRSSC Cee Baily shield moves the shield back closer to the rider and moves the pocket of quiet air with it, so in my case I was able to go with a lower shield and get great results. On my Glide Im runing a 15 shield (comes up to my chin) which is a couple inches lower than a stock touring shield and I can easily run up to 60 -70 with out glasses if i wanted 70 -100+ I get wind but its smooth air not brain rattling buffeting
I found a cure for me but I don't like the looks or feel. I have an 09 SG with 10.5" Clearview recurve shield that is about nose high, lower fairings and C&C solo seat that sits me down and back 1" father then stock. I have tried different shields, Freedom wings and lower fairings. All helped to some degree but still the buffeting was bothersome. For the first time last night I put on a 2011 Ultra stock seat I bought here on the forum for the times I need to ride two up. Went for a ride and NO buffeting even at 75 mph! This new seat I would say sits me a good 2" forward and 2" up. The shield now is just below my chin and the wind still hits me just at the top of my head. I hate the look of the sofa on my SG and because I sit so far forward I feel cramped as hell. Thers got to be a correlation somewhere that I can tap into. Any Thoughts?
