Default Heat Issues

Hey guys, live in Tampa Bay, FL. I have a 2011 SG with stage 1 air cleaner and a PCV. This thing still feels like it runs hot as hell! I have a V&H Big Shot True Duals exhaust, any ideas? Do you think it might be a tuning issue with the PCV?

Could just be that you are directly stradling the rear cylinder of an air cooled motor, in FLA. The heat you feel is radiating from the heads and exhaust pipe, your options are to coat or wrap the pipes, or use a heat shield. The "coolest" enriched tune will still feel hot, less hot than stock, but still hot.

+1 on it not being a PCV issue. The simplest and cheapest thing to try next, if you don't already have them, would be the HD mid frame air deflectors or the crotch cooler from our friendly neighborhood forum sponsor. I think you will find either one will make a noticable difference.

This is probably a topic for its own thread but id like to see what the spark plugs look like on a bike such as yours that's had the equipment mods to see how much cooler and richer it really looks. I cut my cat out of the head and that removed a boatload of heat from the equation and comparing it to all the equip you've added to your bike and how the temps compare would make an interesting read as well?

there are cats in vance hines true duals, pat?

I think a lot of your heat issues would go away if you ran your bike on solar power.

Internal combustion engines are notorious for heat

Unfortunately that is a pretty substantial exaggeration. Removing the cat does nothing to lower engine temperatures. Even if you remove the cat (which I have) the rear cylinder head and pipe are still throwing off the same amount of heat. You might have cooler feet, but your butt is still going to be hot.

ok I will try the mid frame air deflectors.. it gets really really hot and after awhile in stop and go traffic I let out the clutch and it takes alot more gas to get it going... almost like the clutch is tired! lol.

I'm in Houston, we're about as hot if not hotter. I ride everyday. Lately its been over 100 daily and up to 106. I am not having any heat issues with the bike under normal conditions. It will get hot if I get stuck in a traffic jam. I have an '09 (no cat) Fuelmoto tuned PCV, A/C, dyno tuned jackpots, oil cooler, and run redline syn. EITMS is rarely activated
