Default Clutch Problem or Operator Error?

Seems like I have a clutch release problem but I'm not sure. I never noticed this before but after I took a tiny bit of slack out of my clutch cable I realized I cannot push the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in (released). So I started from scratch and slackened the cable, pulled the derby and adjusted the clutch per the manual, reset everything and found no change. When I start in neutral, pull in the clutch to engage a gear there is considerable clunk as there has been forever. But with the motor running and the clutch in the bike rolls with no resistance and the RPMs do not change. Thanks for any advice.

If you could take your primary off and watch the clutch package operate when you pull the clutch lever in, you would understand why the bike won't roll freely.

It's annoying, but normal.

Thanks for all the replies. I sort of feel better now that I know it's "normal". Don't recall my old Norton doing that though. I was also kind of looking forward to a 79 mile ride to the dealer in Annapolis so now I'll need another excuse for a day off work (or not!). Thanks again.

My old triumph didn't do it either but I'm driving a Harley now. The triumph, trident, also had a single plate borg & beck type dry clutch. The harley is a multiplate wet clutch. No comparo.

That's probably why I never noticed before. I've probably only backed the bike into a parking spot with it in gear and the clutch pulled in. Just a habit of mine incase I need to pull forward to straighten up.

Thanks again for all the replies!
