I have the ohlins #3-1's and can't believe the smoothness of the ride and that I actually have something that when I change the settings it really makes a difference. Howard was as informative as he needed to be and did what he said he would no problem.....
Thats what I have on my bike. I like the slightly lowered stance, but I was worried about giving up shock travel. I needn't have worried, I don't bottom them out that I've noticed.
This thread's all over the place, although We're loving the comments about shock threads often becoming an MM commercial. We sometimes make bets on how long it'll take them to chime in!
Do you have specific questions we can help with? We do make the Drag Specialties shock and it is a step above stock, but below the 412 Series. DS shock is designed to be a very economical alternative.

Oh, and Hi Howard!
Thanks, that's the type of specific information I was seeking. For the record I plan to call Progressive suspension this week to discuss the options. Right now I am leaning towards the 412 HD or 440 HD. I weigh about 200 in gear with maybe 15+- in cargo, tools etc onboard. Ocassional passenger around 150 and losing.

Why didn't you just contact them using their website? Seems like that would have been the easiest course of action. But then that doesn't stir the pot now does it?

I wouldn't think that asking user opinions is stirring the pot, uless your pot is easily disturbed. I have looked at the web site but actual users, if you can get someone to respond, give a more accurate picture rather than dealer advertisements. If I bought all the ads, I would be using HD oil, shocks, cables, handlebars, seats, and clothes.
I thought the PS post was more like an ad and you stated "Thats the type of specific information.....and plan to call them...." in response to the post by Progressive Suspension, whose postings wouldn't be considered objective in my mind, more like ads posted by Progressive, which I have no problems with by the way. And my stirring the pot comment was more in fun than anything else as these shock threads can deteriorate into what I call "My dad can beat up your dad" type threads, lol.

I understand, guess I have been up too long today and my butt and back beat up too much this weekend by the stock "shockers". One of my original questions was about the DS shocks and that was the first direct response and it was as I guessed, a middle of the road shock. Course just about anything is better than stock. Thanks for reminding me to be a bit more humble and count to 10 before talking.
im leaning towards the Ohlins for my SG.. i noticed not many upgrade SG shocks here on this thread... i just dont know which ones to get for my 2011 SG... Progressive also sound good to what i read.... wish i would be able to try them out first though....
anyone know if Ohlins or Progressive's are for sale at the Americade in Lake George NY in June ?
don't know about Progressive but Ohlins would not , those of us that use Ohlins on here generally buy from Howard at Motorcyclemetals , although there are many Ohlins distributors Howard gives a sizable forum discount and tunes them specifically for Harley's

Well, considering the original post mentioned Ohlins twice and Progressive once in the first two sentences, it should be no surprise to anyone that both companies shocks are the subject of the replys to the thread.
