We went in the middle of May last year. Some days were hot on the ground, cold in the mountains and a good deal of fog and rain. I went again in July and the weather was much more stable...hotter, but the amount of traffic was way up.

I've been to that area several times on several different bikes. In my opinion, the Dragon itself is more of a sportbike ride. That's not to say Harley's can't do it, but I think there are much better options for heavier bikes like the Blue Ridge or the Cherohala Skyway and they won't be nearly as crowded or frequented by the local constabulary. I brought my VFR in May and I couldn't imagine having very much fun on the Dragon with my HD.

but I have no desire to spend another hour dragging floorboards and dodging morons for 10 miles.
Hahaha, not bashing but that strikes as funny as hell. On my sportbikes or my Motard it usually takes me around 11 minutes, LOL.

We went down to Gatlinburg area twice this year. Last time was Oct. 35/38 degrees in the morning warming to about 62 degrees in the afternoon. If you have a heated jacket liner like I do then March wouldn't matter that much unless there is unexpectedly cold. Long sleeve t-shirt, heated liner, regular long sleeve shirt and a non- lined thin jacket was very comfortable. 58 years old and it took me this long to discover the benefits of heated clothing.

I have nothing against sportbikes ... my oldest son rides a Honda CBR1000. There were plenty of guys/gals riding their sportbikes responsibly, but when a guy on his sportbike pats me on my left shoulder as he passes me on the Dragon, that guy is a moron. And when another guy is passing a pickup truck on a curve, and he's on-coming IN MY LANE, then he's easily in the running for Moron of the Day award also.

As many others have said in their posts, there are many beautiful rides in the Smokeys other than Deal's Gap. And I can't wait to get back on them.
