The result may be that HD finally goes to liquid cooling, which will be a sad, sad day for all of us.
Wont be a sad day for everyone. If they cant figure a way to provide
better cooling then I say bring it on. Wouldnt sway me away from
HD in the slightest. As long as it still looks and sounds like it always
has.
It is totally ridiculous really to buy a new bike and then have to spend 1k
just to make the bike more tolerable. And before the koolaid gang starts
if this is something that doesnt bother anyone I can tell you riders ( lots of
riders ) have been bitchin about heat since the TC88.
Here we are six years later with the 103 and no real improvement ( actually
worse because the engine is bigger ).
I have a friend that had extreme heat on the back cylinder, so much that his wife's calf on her Rt. leg was red from the heat. It's a '10 Ultra, he got messing around and checked his mufflers out. One of them had a blockage in it.....after putting on some aftermarket slip-ons, all is well ! He said he also has more power now.
It was like he was riding with a potato in his muffler, I reckon.
Every one Blames the Motor Company for the Heat, They are being forced to tune the Air Fuel Ratios so lean to Meet the Federal Govt Regulations That is the cause of the Heat. it is just like every other manufacturing industry they are over laden with Govt Rules and red tape and every one wonders why we dont make anything in the USA anymore and that there are no jobs Hmmmm Kick the EPA out and let Americans build things the way they want to and all will come back to normal. for the heat issue remove the cats and add a tuner my ultra dropped 30 degrees but If Harley could meet EPA rules with the bike properly tuned they would. Technically it is in violation for us to do it as well, but until they have an emissions test in my state I will tune my bike the way I want

Well, it won't look the same.
It will need a massive front radiator, a radiator fan, a water pump, extra hoses, and a coolant reservoir.
And on top of all that, you won't be able to remove those things because the redesign will prohibit air cooling, so you will be stuck with them.
not sure but thought if dealer or shop removed a catalytic converter there's a heavy fine something about Federal offense know for sure its that way in the car industry
I think you might be able to hide quite a bit under a chin spoiler
setup. Don't have to eliminate the heat just reduce it to
a more tolerable level for the majority of owners. Maybe
60-70 degrees?
How about considering changes to the pipes ( wraps or coatings ),
a better oil cooler, a better shield solution that routes more heat
away from rider (could maybe throw in some insulation too ), perhaps
look at the fins on the motors, maybe greater oil capacity.
I feel that HD has done very little ( other than the rear cylinder shutoff -
which was a good idea ) to really improve the situation. And it's not
like it just started with 2012 models.
I agree wont look exactly the same but might not be that bad.

It would be good to take a look at the Metrics and see how they have dealt with this problem.
I know mostly they have just gone to liquid cooling, but some like the Yamaha Warrior are still air cooled.
My warrior got HOT on my legs, but it was catless....
I gota agree with KF4, Don't blame H.D., blame the EPA and the Government for these stupid restrictive laws which are killing American companies and American jobs.. The FBI raided Gibson Guitars the other day looking for rare woods .. Give me a break.. Lead is kids mini bikes ? Ethanol in gas which actually kills gas mileage and destroys the engine. People are wondering why no jobs are being created ? Get ride of the EPA altogether !
Thanks for all the good info. Anyone who wants to send instructions, or lawsuit info (not that I would join, just fyi). I have already done the Big Sucker air cleaner, Thundercone slip-ons and the Racetuner. Yeah, it really brought tears to my eyes as well, but the extra oomph you get is worth it! Also, anyone in the Dallas area looking to customize or recover their seat should go see Aric at Boss Hogg seats. I will post pics of mine that he did, and for not a whole lotta $$$
