Took my bike to Lake Erie Harley in Avon, OH to have an oil leak fixed. They found the leak - coming from the stator plug and quoted me 3 hrs labor plus parts. They opened the primary case, sealed the plug area and put everything back together. The total cost for the job - parts & labor around $300.
When they tested the bike it still had the leak. They then took everything back apart, re-examined the stator and discovered it was the problem and needed to be replaced. So, another 3 hours of labor, a second set of gaskets, etc and now the leak is finally fixed.
On my way to pick up my bike I was anticipating having a discussion with them regarding what I should actually pay for the job. I was very surprised and happy to find that they wrote off completely the first attempt - the cost of the parts, the labor, everything. And only charged me for the original quote - 3 hrs labor, plus parts. Now, I know this is what they should have done, but it was very refreshing to me that they did the right thing, on their own, without any discussion from me.
So in the end, not only is my bike without an oil leak, but Lake Erie Harley has a loyal customer.
Good dealers are rare & it's nice to hear about the quality service they provide. My local dealer is 20 miles from me, but I take my bikes to one 60 miles away. That's the best dealer in my state, he treats me better than my own family...
That's cool! I have dealt with Indy West Harley outside Indianapolis twice this summer. My inner primary bearing went out first. They went out of their way and discovered the bike had a extended warranty on it that was going to expire four days after I brought the bike in, and then they got a hold of The MOCO on their own to have the tranny case and inner primary case updated. This cost me $50.
The second time my bike got hit in a parking lot, whole front end was damaged. They worked with me and I had numerous mods done while they had the bike, parts coated, etc. They didn't charge me for the coating, and charged me less than 3 hours labor for all the extra work I had done so I figured they could do it instead of me doing it this winter.
Plus they did a good job on both repairs! I will always go back to them now. I used to go to a indy by my house for some of the work I couldn't deal with, but not anymore, Indy West are good people!
Local dealer 15 miles, great dealer 89 miles. I find that the ride to Wildcat HD in London ky is well worth it for me. Service and sales team are top notch. Local dealer seems to be like a disfunctional family.
...great..but make sure you go back into the stator and remove the time-delay fuse they put in there, ready to go off in 18 months so you go back for another round of labor.....seriously, that's the way service should be handled ALL THE TIME, I know I would be pissed if they even MENTIONED me paying for a miss-diagnosis...
