SG34 i've never owned a set of 255s but i ride with several guys that have them. They will be a DRAMATIC improvement over stock. One guy has a 103 limited with 255s and he's makin 92hp and 106 tq. NO headwork, just SE air, RinehartTDs, and SERT. Your 96 wont be far behind in hp but a littleless Tq.
I have V&H Power Duals, PCV, SE intake and 255's. Dyno run yesterday (free dyno runs at the dealer) showed 85HP 97TQ. I was in the upper 70's with HP prior to the V&H pipe. Was just running gutted stock 2into 1 pipe with Jackpot slip on so I think that's where the HP bump came from.
Either way, you can't beat the price of the 255's. Especially if looking at used out of a CVO. Looking at considerably more for a woods setup and for what? a few tq and HP? I think this setup is without a doubt the best bang for the buck setup you can get in a touring bike. If you want to go above and beyond this range, go with a 103 or a 107. 103's with the right cam do put out good power. I saw a 103 on the same dyno I was on yesterday pull 100HP and 107TQ. Didn't see the torque curve but there is no replacement for displacement.
Additionally, buddies fatboy with the V&H Slash down's, SE intake and PCV was around 74HP and 84TQ. Pipes definitely hurt his HP and torque but I guarantee cams will make a +10 difference on both numbers. Stock 96's were in the upper 60's HP and low 70's for torque. If your 255 bike can't outrun a 96 you have a severe weight disadvantage.
I am a little concerned with it being dead at 4000rpm my other thought was the woods 555 but it seems like a completely different animal.Any thoughts on the woods 5-6? I don't run my bike over 5k very often normally not past 4500 so I thought the 255 would be a good choice and it is pretty cheap.I'm just tired of thinking about it
I like my 255 I don't really notice it droping off a 4000 I would not think twice about buying them again.

I think its more than that! A stock 96 is a dog. Maybe his fuel filter is clogged!
Ok my.02, First I got rid of the junk stock compensator and put in an se, Put in the 255's in and made a big difference 2 up for me, was not wanting a hotrod just something with more pulling power and able to pass with me and the bride. I am like others here I do all my shifting between 2k and 3k cuz of preventing engine lugging. Like I said I am happy with these cams for now and could always change later. Harley cams are very easy to change out so not a problem down the road..
Best result for most riding situations with lot less money SE 255 is the way to go.Warranty or ESP doesn't get voided and inexpensive way to increase good performance.
Just got back from a road trip. Bike is a 2010 road glide with 204 cams. Runs nice for touring with a loaded bike. Runs about 3100 rpm's at 80 mph. Passes real well, but I drop down to fifth gear on two lanes for the extra acceleration. I was told that the 204 is a better fit than the 255 for the 96 cubic inch. Don't have any facts to back up that statement, but I am pleased. Bike will top out at 110 mph on the navigation system. Bike will go faster, but I won't.
