Problem with Road King Classic Style Rider Backrest

I have an 09 RKC with the RKC Style Rider Backrest (p/n 52583-09A). I went out the other day to drop in the backrest and the spring that keeps the supports spread out is gone. I live 2 hours away from any dealer and wanted to go pick up a spring at the hardware store. Is there any other hardware that goes with the spring? The drawing in the instructions seems to just show the spring and that is the only part number listed. If someone with that backrest could look at theirs and let me know I would appreciate it.

I looked at mine from my 07 and it's just the spring. It slides over the nubs on both sides. I don't have a pn for mine but I'm sure yours is the same.
