Running Wires Under the Gas Tank?
After searching for a but and not finding the the answers I'm looking for thought I'd post this out there with a very specific topic. Hopefully helps the next person.
I have a 2010 FLHR. Is this a difficult process? Any tips and tricks I should know before I begin? Leads me to my next questions, where do I start? I just need to run a small accessories harness under the tank. I'm hoping I can just lift it slightly and run the wire underneath.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'd strongly suggest that you remove the tank entirely (very easy job, since the 09-later [maybe 08-later; don't know] models don't have a crossover tube at the front). The factory wiring is contained within a plastic tray that runs down the frame backbone. You can open this tray (has a cover) and place the wire inside. This is a much cleaner solution than running the wire outside the tray, where it might be chafed by something else.

on my 1995, with seat off, I ran a thin piece of wood dowel under the tank to a point the right side of the neck.
attached the wiring I wanted to run and a small piece of cable which was to stay in place should I need to fish anything else through.
pulled the dowel back slow and easy--- and done.
I left my tank in place.
if you can't get a clear shot through, you may need to raise the rear or the entire tank.

+1. Best way is always the sure way to eliminate any future potential problems.

The gas tank is easy to take completely off on 2009 and newer.
Because there is only a quick coupler fuel line now, not a cross over in front like in the past years.
Then there is a plastic tray to lay your wires in and not have to worry about pitching the wires.
I am neither patient, a mechanic nor can I see worth a damn and I have done it.
I am getting better about being patient though.
