I took an allen wrench cut off the short end until there is just enough to grab a bolt and only loosen the rear bolts works like charm. It fits right under the radio bezel.

No offense, but I'd find a new Indy. Sounds like a good way to destroy the Knurling on the bars.

If you have Allen head bolts, use an Allen wrench.
If you have Torx head bolts, use a Torx wrench.
I prefer to use the correct tool, but I guess a guy could go and buy new bolts for 'next' time.
