Rush Racing makes a GREAT cermi-coated head pipe set, all hardware included, chrome heat shields of great quality included, great build quality, look awesome! And after a 3 hour ride you can just about grab and hold onto the heat shield with a bare hand. The price is very nice also... I think I got mine from Phat Performance.com
At my 1K service which the dealer did, I had the V&H naked intake, V&H power duals, SE street performance mufflers, and fuelpak installed. Runs much cooler, good low end torque and not too loud
The Vance and Hines setup is what they reccomended at the dealership. They said that they have had the best luck for durability with those.
I certainly have no regrets, I did the stage 1 at 1K (now at 7k).
I did v&h max O2 intake, fuelpack, and python (v&h street) slip-ons.
I got it done for parts cost, due to the dealer wanting to understand better options for various crowds.
I wanted better pulling power 2-up on the freeway (though I still shift down to 5th or less for passing) - but now I've got some guts even in 6th - if needed.
My work/pleasure trips are mostly 3k+ rpm (40-60mph), through easy/midium twisties, 2up on the super slab, I have a hard time keeping it below 75, and often don't even try unless the weather (in central CA) is less than normal.
Eventually, I see a better O2 management system, oil & parade fan in my future for the traffic and general issues, but the fuel pack has proven its worth in booth better temps, and more torque (coupled with the rest of the stage 1).
Fuel Moto is great, also look at FullSac for head pipes....
If you want to do it right:
1. New Heap pipe
2. TTS tuner
3. High flow air clearner ( I like Arlan Ness Big Sucker)
4. Free flowing mufflers
cheap? nope....but it's done right...
Here's the scoop from a lot smarter people than me....from the Tri Glide section, but applies to all touring bikes. Should be a "sticky" here also...
