I am looking at getting a stage 1 upgrade for my Ultra. Not because it needs more power, or I need more volume. Both are fine. The reason is because I am looking at shedding heat. If I get True Dual exhaust and get rid of the catalyst and put on slip ons it will get rid of a whole bunch of the engine heat and that is what I am after. The thing is quite the furnace and I am looking at cooling it a bit. Has anybody done a stage 1 on a 103 twin cam? Does it help with the heat? Is it worth the cash for the benefit?
To get the engine to run cooler you need to find a way to richen up your fuel mixture.
Exhaust and intake won't really help with the heat and if your happy with the way it sounds and runs you probably won't be happy with the results.
I added XEID's and it brought down the temp about 25-30 degrees and the bike runs better. You can also richen it up with a tuner...it all depends on how much you want to spend.
There is some valuable info related to heat on nightrider.com. The XEID's I bought were 100 bucks and a 15 minute easy install.
I had a Stage 1 installed shortly after buying my '09 and I think it's worth it to have the engine run a little cooler. It cut the fuel mileage a minimal amount but it was worth it. If I were going to do anything else to reduce the heat it would be to have the headers ceramic coated.
At my 1K service which the dealer did, I had the V&H naked intake, V&H power duals, SE street performance mufflers, and fuelpak installed. Runs much cooler, good low end torque and not too loud
on mine 2011 r.g 103 i put on the power duals the harly stag 1 air filter and back plate and v.and h. dual tip slip ons and the heat is down and the power is up .lost about 2 to 3 mpg ,and i had the stag 1 down load .,n a friend of mine did his after he seen how mine was and he loves it too.so yes i would do it .you can save alot of money by doing it yourself then let harly do the down load
yeah when i took my cats off they were dard blue if not black the bike only had 1100 miles on it ,so what does that tell you.i dont get half the heat i had before
