Now, for a serious reply... If the cratch is white or chalky looking, then you have only gouged the clear. It can be wetsanded and buffed. Go by a custom paint shop and have them look at it. It probably can be wetsanded with 150 then buffed.

If it hit paint... then what they say, use a sharpy and ride, because the only real option at that point would be to have it spot filled, feathered, and repainted.

Did the same thing with my boot, got some scratch remover at auto parts store and hand buffed it till it barely showed then wiped with alcohol and touched up with touchup paint you can order from the dealer then with the finest grit wet sand paper lightly sanded the touch up doun to level and did the hand buff again, couldnt notice it any more unless you new it was there.

My dealer has this guy who details the bikes after service and he's a miracle worker with touch paint. He says to dab it on let it dry 48 hours, repeat, until filled, clearcoat, and buff. It's unfriggin' believable some of the **** he has covered up.

I posted awhile back on this subject regarding Vivid Black hardbags.

This first scratch is a pisser, but it's gonna happen again and again. Boot scuffs, dropping them, fingernail scratches around the lid, rocks, etc. I found out real quick black hardbags, just like young hot babes, look awsome but are real high maintenance.

I got a lot of interesting and creative responses, but I found for most light surface scratches and scuffs Maguires Scratch X is hands down the best solution. For the more serious stuff I think touching up with matching paint and wet sanding with 1500-2000 grit will do the job. Haven't tried it yet, but at some point it will probably be neccessary.

Thanks to all. Sounds like I'll be okay, as the scratch is chalky. I'll try a paint guy and let you know. In the meantime I'm working on the story for how it got there. You can bet it'll be much more interesting than the truth (they fell over on my garage floor). I'm thinking something about a cowgirl and stirrups one late night in Cheyenne...

Thanks again. I'm glad to be in a place with this much help.
