Think it depends on where your at. Going down the highway at 60 mph hell yes, crank it up but if you are slowly cruising through a neighborhood turn it down. Be respectful, just saying.
+1....A little common sense and a little respect for others goes a long way. I love rock - loud and old....some don't. Turn down in town, at the light etc. and ya got no problems...with the cops or folks who already don't like bikes.
I live in a townhouse and I hate it when I can hear my neighbors music. I also hate it when I can't hear my own radio in my car when some a$$hole pulls next to me at a traffic light and his sterio is blasting. I agree that if it can be heard 75 feet away, it IS TOO LOUD! You like your tunes - fine, but don't assume everybody around you wants to listen to the $hit you are playing. Now - loud pipes are a different story in my book. I love the sound of some nice free-flowing pipes on a Harley. Keep your music to yourself though. JMHO
You were doing real good and right on until you got to your noise is ok though. That's funny.

That is absolutely 100% true...unless you think cops don't like bikes. As a cop, I can say that most of us really appreciate the beauty of most bikes and don't pay much attention to the loud pipes...as long as the rider rides in a respectful manner. Turn down the tunes in town and don't get on the throttle in areas that disturb others (neighborhoods, downtown cities, etc). Thats just common courtesy...which these days seems to be more of an uncommon courtesy.
So I have stock pipes on my bike, but have Hogtunes 40 watt per channel amp, 7" woofers in the lowers, Hogtunes speakers in the fairing and tweeter pod. Cop pulled up behind me as I'm cranking out "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who and rocking out. Got a warning but he said it was a nice stereo. Seems that the ordinance states if you can hear the music 75 feet away it's too loud.
Did he just say it was to loud or did he say it was crisp and clear?
