I took mine off
You can remove the insert and clean the glue off + then either repaint it or get a new insert - Harley sells them...

If your gonna paint it yourself, do yourself a favor and use two part epoxy primer and clear. You don't need a compressor and gun if you don't already have one:

This stuff is the bomb if your using rattle cans. Adheres like glue (cause it is), dries super hard, very impervious to gasoline. A backyard painters best friend.

I changed my FLHT center console out for one off of a Streetglide,used heat gun to remove insert with no problem not able to reuse but didn't want to nice chrome under it !!!

I took the insert off of my Road King. I mangled the heck out of the old one. The old glue came off with acetone leaving behind a smooth chrome surface.

Here is the finished center console. I will be doing ALL my parts in powdercoat in due time. But I like the way it looks for now.

posted on new thread also but figure I would post here since I comented earlier. New Iron Glass console turned out better the expected. very happy and got 10% off for being forum member. matching latches on bags are very sweet also.
