frac {v^2}{2}+ \int_{p_1}^p \frac {d\tilde{p}}{\rho(\tilde{p})}\ + \Psi = \{constant}Clarke C. and Carswell B., ''Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics'' (constant along a streamline)

It's the same principal that makes a golf ball fly farther than you think it should.

All auto/trucks produce a Bow Effect " Shock Wave" in from the the auto which will push the lighter insects away or up/over from the auto. The Effect can be several inches in some spots to several feet depending on the physical aspects of the auto moving thru the air. If youve ever passed a tractor/trailer rig and right at the front felt a massive air jolt, this is the Bow Effect created by the tractors front.
Your truck has maybe 50 times the frontal surface area as your HD does & pushes that much more air around. Bugs get caught in the trucks air stream & dont hit the truck. Your HD doesnt have enough frontal area to do much in pushing the bugs away.
