And if it didn't screw out, then screw it out and get a new one.

Use a little heat and some vise grips and it will come out.

If it snapped off with the bolt sticking out of the hole, yes, vice grips. Perhaps a little heat. Unless you used a thread lock. Then, I do not know, but then you may make things worse by cooking the chemical. Others will have to chime in about this aspect.

Assuming it snapped off with the bolt recessed inside of the hole....

Time for an "easy out".

Sears has a couple of sets;

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10...yword=Easy+Out

I happen to like this type;

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...1&blockType=G1

Regardless of which type you use the real key to success is to set your disappointment and frustration aside, take your time, follow the instructions.

When you drill the initial hole use a "set", a center punch, to mark the center of the bolt that is in the threads. Then use a small, very small, drill bit - with a little oil - to drill the initial hole. Followed up by a drill bit a little larger than the last. Work your way up to the proper size hole for the extracting tool.

Just take your time. If you get discouraged walk away for awhile. Over night if you have to.

It can be a tedious process but frustration will only make the process longer and filled with errors.

But, once you win, you will be very satisfied.

One center punch one electric drill
one small left hand drill bit one small
four cornered eazeout and a adjustable
wrench. Do not use the spiral twisty
kind of a eazeout. Then add a little luck
and presto, there you go.

If you don't have a shop manual, get one. If you do, read it.

sometimes you can mash the broken stud real hard against the part still left in the hole and turn the broken end out....if that doesn't work do the above....the bad news is you are probably going to have to remove the shock from the bike to get to the broken stud...

My buddy did the same thing. I tack welded a nut on the broken end and just turned it out with a wrench
