At Demarva bike week I was at the Rush vendor booth. They have a new 4" slip on called the "Big Louie". The black with chrome tips would look good on my 09 Black SG. The demo bike was a 2011 SG with the catalytic converter and it still sounded pretty damn good in my opinion. Curious if anyone is running this new muffler and if so, what do you think. I have been using Rush for years on a couple of my Harley's and love the sound (2" baffle). The chrome on my mufflers on the 09 SG have been on for nearly 3 years now and the chrome looks as good as the day I bought them. I probably will spend the 429 bucks but would still like to hear opinions from anyone who already has the new 4" mufler. Should I get them I will step up to the 2 1/2" baffle and get a fuel management system.
I have a Dragos 2/1 system which is made by Rush. I have the 2.55 inch baffle and it sounds great. No reason to think the Big Louie would be significantly different. I've always liked the way Rush mufflers sound.
I'm running the Big Louies on my 09 flhtc. No complaints. I like the deaper tone. My wife runs the Rush slip-ons on her 2010 flstc. I made custom baffels for her, as she didn't like the sound with the 2 inch. This winter I will be making some custom baffels for my Big Louies. The design gives quieter tone at idle, but comes alive when you get on it.
Apologies for hijacking the thread.... but I'm curious
if the Big Louies will fit the '08 models ???
I've had the Rush slip ons with 2" baffles for 45k miles
and really like them alot.... And I'm really gnawing for
the 4" Big Louies if they are compatible with my '08.
Again, apologies for the side track from the OP's question.
I appreciate the responses. I have been using Rush slip ons for years and have always liked the sound and quality of their product. My 09 SG is vivid black. I have been running the chrome 3 1/2" muffler with a 2" baffle for about 17000 miles. I am sure the packing is burnt off as they have become alot deeper in tone over time. I was considering having my stock rear wheel powder coated black as I do not seem to be inclined to clean it as often as the rest of the bike. The 4" muffler in black would be a nice accent, even though I am big on chrome on the rest of the bike. I am not expecting a big sound difference between the 3 1/2" and the 4" as I will stay with the 2" baffle again to void any remapping or fuel management system. I will however go with the chrome tips on the black muffler. Thanks again.
I have a 2011 103 LTD Ultra. Just got it in June. Vance & Hines Power Duals, and Big Louies with a 2.5 baffle. When new, they sounded exactly like the 3.5 muffler with a 2.5 baffle after a few thousand miles, when the packing had all burned off. (Had that setup on my 09 EG Classic.) They're not a whole lot deeper & throatier than the 3.5 mufflers --- maybe a little --- but they're not so loud that nobody'll ride behind me anymore. I have less than 6000 miles on the LTD, so they might even get louder than they are now, when that packing burns off the 2.5 baffles. I like 'em. Go for 'em. RUSH said, "you know, these are gonna be loud", but your buddies'll be able to ride behind you, no problem. They're not that bad.
I am planning on ordering the Big Louie, with a Slash Up to match the lines of my extended bags, most likely going to a 2.25" baffle. I really do like the way Rush sounds. Buddy has 2" 3.5 on his Road King and has a very, very nice sound to it.
I have them on my 11 Ultra. Not sure about them...I have 1200 miles on them so I know they are not broken in yet. I just told my wife this morning I was going to do a little "exploratory sugery" after work today and pull the baffles just to take a look.
I am coming off an 03 RKC that had Samson Fishtails (with baffles) so maybe I just need to get used to these "Big Louies" There is a definite difference from what I had.
They do bark when you jump on them but they mellow out when you are riding steady and I can hear more engine than anything...At idle they seem pretty quiet as well. I am used to hearing my low rumble at a stop light not the squeeking of a water pump in an old ford ranger behind me like I did yesterday...
I wonder how much of this is because the CAT and how much is the pipe. Someone from RUSH please jump in and shed some light on this for me. I was tossing around in my mind either different slip ons or the alternative of new head pipes and a tuner. The second option is more costly and if I do it I want to know that I am going to get the sound I am looking for without having to cahnge the mufflers when I am done.
