is re-settin the the throttle position sensor.... i think its four times waiting 10 seconds in between. My 08 street glide did it too. My new to me 2010 has not done it yet. There are threads posted on exactly how to do it. hhg
IF THE BIKE'S (2008) IDLE CHANGES FROM AROUND 1,000 TO 1,200 RPM TO A HIGH IDLE UPWARDS TO 2,000 RPM FOR NO REASON, HERE IS THE FIX UNTIL HD COMES OUT WITH A DOWNLOAD CORRECTION:
<< THE BIKE IS NOT RUNNING AT THIS POINT - DO NOT START IT YET!! >>
LEAVE THE CUT-OFF SWITCH (ON THE RIGHT SIDE HANDLEBAR) IN THE ON POSITION AND TURN THE MAIN KEY SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION. WAIT UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OFF. TURN MAIN KEY SWITCH OFF FOR 5 TO 9 SECONDS (ALARM WILL USUALLY SOUND A CHIRP) THEN TURN MAIN KEY SWITCH BACK ON AND GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS FOUR TIMES.
THE FIFTH TIME GO AHEAD AND START THE MOTORCYCLE BUT DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE WHEN STARTING. IDLE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED.
IN THE FUTURE, DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE WHEN TURNING OFF THE MOTORCYCLE - LET IT IDLE DOWN AS NORMAL WITHOUT HAND ON THROTTLE AND THEN TURN IT OFF.

Pretty common situation & just need to let bike drop down to normal idle before cutting off. Take a few secs to remove gloves, unbuckle helmet...etc...& then hit the switch. Works every time - new bike/new shutdown process.

What he said. I sometimes pull mine into the garage which is uphill and kill the engine before it returns to idle and then the next time I start it the idle is faster because the ecu remembers the idle speed at shut down.
