Ordering New HD - Questions
Ordering my first HD this week, having it delivered in Feb ready for the first day able to ride and wanted some suggestions etc.
2012 Street Glide, Black Denim
Getting the Security and ABS, Cruise options.
As far as picking sit for my self and OL am I not best to wait and see how we/she finds things next summer. I see a lot of people like the Sundowner. When you sit and try the seats in the store does that give an accurate result?
I would like to black out the bike over time. So I am having the black engine kit installed and the stage II cam kit done at the same time when it arrives at the store in Feb, to cut down on labour and so it is under warranty.
I would like to do the engine guard, exhaust & front end at the beginning so they are under warranty but the OL is putting a hold on those plans.
This will be my 2nd bike just rode a 750 metric this summer.
Any suggestions would be great, am still a newbie
Thanks

1.) ensure that the cams installed will comply with your warranty, and get it in writing.
2.) seats , best time to check seats in when the butt is already sore---.
I've had riders ask to sit on my bike to check out the seat, and I've done the same.
riders like to show off and talk about their bikes
I use an ultra seat touring and with OL, a FLHX seat for rides less than 4 or 5 hours ( 6 hurts) and sometimes a brawler solo seat. you can do all kinds of set up stuff for the OL, chances are 95% you'll be solo.
3.) warranty again- read the thing over there are so many exclusions--- anything the dealer tells you, get in writing so you have recourse. You'll soon find out that the dealer and H-D are not the same company and H-D may not feel obligated for warranty claims when dealer installed parts are involved--- specifically engine performance parts listed as "off road" in the catalog. this is further complicated in that the CDN distibutor in Van. ( Trev Deeley) controls parts distribution, warranty etc.
3a.) aftermarket extended warranties have even more exclusions. they are perfect if you are leaving your bike stock and plan on never changing anything.
4.) some of the lighting access. for the US FLHX don't easily fit the CDN model- do research before ordering up--- but if you are handy with wiring it's all pretty easy.
so that's the cynical outlook.
aside from that enjoy your new bike, that wait'll kill you----- use that time to look in the mags and see what you really like.
the "black out look" just find dated and it's hard to make it all work ( to my eye) matte black vs gloss black etc. but that's up to you and your eye
order the factory service manual it'll pay for itself quick.
if you decide to jump in deep with motor work check Donny Peterson at Heavy Duty Cycles out on the Danforth
- rather than spend a bunch on acc and bolt ons for my bikes, I just buy...more bikes!
Every buck you save on bike 1 puts you that much closer to bike 2
and what ever you do don't buy the "live to ride" junk.
