Default Teflon tape?

I just did my bikes second service (first one was done by dealer) and noticed teflon tape on the drain plugs, did my bike come from the factory like this or is it something extra the dealer did?

Why would they even bother with an o-ring sealing plug if they are just going to use thread sealant on it anyway, they should have just used a pipe plug and saved a few more pennies on production.

My dealer put Pipe Dope on at the 1K service. I cleaned it off when I did the next service. Have'nt used it again. 37K and no leaks.

I use teflon so as to not deform the o ring- I got some in a drawer, but why swap 'em out if we don't have to.

also I've never worn out the threads on a drain-- and don't want to by over-tightening--- I keep my stuff a long time.

Any time your doing an NPT thread PTFE is your friend. It's a good quote to live by. Teflon will never hurt if anything it will keep your from galling (dunno if i spelled that right) a thread and really ruining an afternoon

Mine has a white sealant, not teflon tape. It helps, but.......why ? when you have an o-ring.

Think about it, why make things more complicated than they have to be? If you have a good o-ring, nothing else is required.
